Afghanistan won the Homeless World Cup 2008 in Melbourne, Australia the the tournament took place from 01 December to 07 December. The final were between Afghanistan and Russia, (4 - 5) to Afghanistan.
The sixth edition of the tournament brought together players from 56 countries. Since from first time opening the tournament has grown and has been played in in Gothenburg, Sweden (2004); Edinburgh, Scotland (2005); Cape Town, South Africa (2006); and Copenhagen, Denmark (2007). The 2009 tournament will be played in Milan, Italy.

The Homeless World Cup is an international tournament, that uses football as tool to help homeless people around the world, and change their lives.
- History
The first Homeless World Cup took place in Graz, Austria in 2003, where 144 homeless players from 18 countries came to Graz for the tournament. The main co-founder of Homeless World Cup Mel Young. Overall this program have been lunch in every year from 2003 to 2008.
- Why Homeless World Cup
Well, after my point of view this tournament series haven’t got globe attention yet, but it is a very good example for those who are addicted to drugs, to let them know how sport can change someone from many different bad habits. It’s been proven that sport is the best way to leave addiction of drugs. So far there is only football (soccer) for Homeless World Cup, but i hope they will add more sports like volleyball, basketball and those to attract other people who are interesting on other sports.
